    The Energy Guidelines label contains 3 important pieces of information: the estimated annual energy cost (most products); the energy consumption or energy efficiency rating of the product as determined by the US Department of Energy test procedures; and the comparison range of the highest and lowest energy consumption for all products of the same type. . The rules stipulate that manufacturers must calculate energy costs based on national average energy (such as electricity, gas, and oil) cost data released by the US Department of Energy.
